Since Tuesday was election day and I missed posting I figured I would post a Thursday Tutorial instead. Since I know tons of you out there needed another reason to purchase something to kill your diet.....but it is for a good cause. The tin I am using is an empty Girl Scout Nuts container. So next time you pass some Girl Scouts on your way out of the store selling Nuts stop and buy a tin! If you don't find any I know where to get them ;-)
I really didn't eat this many; I asked my parents to bring back the empty tins when they were don. We actually have only finished 1 tin out of 4. Not then on to the project. Everything is from Stampin' Up! unless other wise noted.
So to get started you will need the following Supplies: Designer Series Paper, coordinating Card stock, Coordinating ink pads, coordinating ribbon, coordinating stamp set, Coluzzle, glue dots, Sticky strip, paper snips, paper cutter, Hobby Blade, SNAIL, a ruler and of course those GIRL SCOUT NUTS.
So the first thing I did was remove the label and measure it. The good thing about the Girl Scout Nuts is that all the tins are the same size so once you measured one you are set to go for all of them. And yes that does say Chocolate Covered Almonds! YUMMY!!
When you cut your paper be sure to cut a scrap about 1.5- 2 inches because the tin is actually longer around then 12 inches.
I ran sticky strip along all 4 sides of both pieces to be sure they would stay.
Then start by centering the 2 inch scrap and then put the long one on over it. It seemed to be less noticeable this way.
After I got both pieces on I cut a strip to coordinate with the original background paper that I had chosen. The strip I cut for this one was 1.5 inches.
Apply Sticky Strip to it and then center it on your can and adhere it down. I didn't use a scrap for this one because I'm going to be hiding the open spot with a stamped image. ~NOTE: The patch in the bats is in the back of the tin, and the blank spot on the smaller layer is on the front of the tin.
Next you need to decide on your image. I used Carved and Candlelit which is retired because my daughters choose it over the other sets I have. And since the tins were for their teachers I figured I should go with what they wanted.
After you stamp you image cut it out. My pumpkin need a layer behind him so I layered it on Basic Black and cut it out again. Then I used a Glue dot to adhere it to the tin over the blank area in the strip.
Next I used a hobby knife to make a slit on theside to run the ribbon through for a handle. Rock the blade a bit to make the slit just wide enough to get the ribbon through. Repeat on the opposite side.
I really didn't do anything special to get the ribbon through except for cut it to a point. After it is through tie a knot in the ribbon and pull the slack back out so the knot is under the lip of the tin. Repeat on the opposite side.
Next is get out your coluzzle and measure the inside lip to it and cut out a circle to fit on the lid (this way you hide the evidence that you ate the nuts...LOL). I used Sticky Strip again to adhere it down.
Voila...... Now fill it with candy and treats and your done.
NOTE: The different nuts have different colored lids, so you can actually coordinate them to the seasons if you wanted.
So here is what each of the tins had inside them. yes they each got the some things inside.
Hope you enjoyed todays tutorial. Stay toned later I will be posting some BLOG CANDY!!
Thanks for Stopping by! ~Tamarra
